Half Round Gutters,
Period Correct.

The rounded profile that belongs on colonial, Victorian and architect-designed homes — where a modern K-style gutter looks wrong the moment it goes up. Aluminum or copper, 5 and 6 inch.

Why Half Round

The right profile for the wrong-looking house.

K-style gutters became standard because they are cheap to form and hold more water for their size. But on a period home the flat face and ogee curve read as an obvious modern addition. Half round is what those rooflines were designed around, and it is why restoration work almost always specifies it.

  • Traditional rounded profile in 5 and 6 inch
  • Available in seamless aluminum or solid copper
  • Correct for historic districts and HOA-restricted properties
  • Smooth interior — less to catch debris than a K-style trough
  • Matching round downspouts rather than rectangular

Half Round vs K-Style

How the Two Actually Compare

01

Appearance

Half round suits period and traditional architecture. K-style suits most homes built after roughly 1960.

02

Capacity

A K-style gutter holds more water per inch of width, so half round is often specified one size up.

03

Cleaning

The smooth round trough sheds debris more readily than the flat-bottomed K-style profile.

04

Cost

Half round costs more than K-style in the same material — less common, more hangers, more careful fitting.

Half Round Gutter Installation FAQ

Half Round Gutter Installation Questions

Are half round gutters more expensive?

Yes, in the same material. They are less common, need more hangers, and take more care to fit. The gap is modest in aluminum and significant in copper, since copper is priced by weight.

Do half round gutters hold less water?

Per inch of width, yes — a K-style trough has more cross-sectional area. That is why we usually recommend going one size up, to 6 inch, when moving a roof from K-style to half round.

Can I get half round in aluminum, or is it copper only?

Both. Seamless aluminum half round covers most of what we install and comes in the same baked-on colour range. Copper half round is the traditional pairing if the budget allows.

Will half round work with my existing downspouts?

Usually we change them too. Half round pairs with round downspouts, and keeping rectangular ones tends to undo the look you are paying for.

Is half round required in a historic district?

Sometimes. Some Bucks County historic districts and HOAs specify profile and material on street-facing elevations. Check your guidelines before ordering — we are happy to look at them with you.

Do half round gutters clog more?

Less, generally. The rounded trough has no flat bottom for debris to settle into. Guards fit half round fine, and we install them on it regularly.
